Can Do

every time I see
the majestic

clouds floating
by it reminds me

that some day
soon our glorious

Lord Jesus will
appear in them

and those who are
his will meet him

there in the air
forever

forever lives only
in fairy tales for

those who don’t
believe but if you

believe in God you
know forever is

something only God
can do

For the Children

if you stand in a garage
doesn’t mean you will
become a car

if you smoke a Churchill
cigar doesn’t mean you
will become like

Churchill

if you have children
doesn’t mean you will
become good and

loving parents

anyone can be a parent

sadly there are no
qualifications to become
parents

the first two are silly
the last one is most
unfortunate

mostly for the children
especially during COVID

Talking to Myself

I was awakened at five
by the sound of heavy
rain crashing on our

metal roof
heck of a way to start
a Monday

it is now thirteen-thirty
the sun is out and the
wind is picking up

I can hear the distant
thunder and see the
lightning strike

the lawn is too wet to
cut and there are still
receding pools of water

on the patio

I can’t see the jet or
the small plane but I
hear them fly overhead

unaware of the coming
storm which looks
ominous and mighty

but the coming storm is
only the tiniest display
of God’s power

my phone beeps with a
text message from LDH
reporting 16,541 new

cases of COVID-19 since
Friday along with 2,720
hospitalizations

the governor adds get
vaccinated mask up and
help save lives

how many more deaths will
it take

how much longer will
arrogance and ignorance
rule

God is speaking to us through
the storm calling us back
to him

is anyone listening

or am I only talking to myself

Only in America

I didn’t feel like doing another crossword on my phone. I didn’t feel like writing another poem about the weather. I caved in and scrolled through the news on my phone. Instantly I was reminded of the many reasons why I seldom read, watch, or listen to the news anymore in any form. Even if I do scroll through the news, I only look at the headlines.

Over a dozen of the headlines reported violent deaths and hate crimes here—only in America—not in rest of the world, only here in America.

Americans are no longer free. America is not divided; it is beyond divided. It is imploding from being in bondage to uncontrollable hate and violence. So, the America that was, no longer is. You think it is but it is not.

The good character traits and human values based on God’s Truth that most Americans used to embrace and emulate helped America become one of the most civilized and successful nations on earth. That is no longer true.

No God, no peace. No God, no safety. No God, no truth. No God, no love. No God, no life eternal.

One Thing

Darkness descended midmorning
with a major storm hanging in
the air.

Distant thunder is no longer
distant squeezing us from
all sides.

Well call me Noah!

It is a torrential downpour
with no end in sight. I must
turn on a light in here.

I got a severe thunderstorm
watch then a flash flood warning
and a special weather statement.

My phone is ringing off the hook!
Well, dinging like crazy. I know.
Phones don’t do that anymore.

I always wanted to say that;
because my phone didn’t ring
then and rarely rings now.

You try not to worry but these
are the things you worry about
with loved ones on the road.

My wife drove her sister for a
scheduled surgery before this
storm hit.

Her drive back will be a tough
one. It goes without saying but
it is out of my hands.

Storms like this are subtle red
flags to remind us that we are
not in control. God is.

It just happens that way and
there is nothing one can
do about it.

Well there is one thing. Prayer.
Pray to God for their safety.
And pray some more.
