Look Up

I thought I really decided
what I had to do to bring
my lifelong malaise to

an end

but now I am not so sure

that’s okay because I will
continue living my life in
the shadow of dysthymia

that no one but me knows
is always there no matter
what I do or where I go

so I will continue to
know joy pain and sorrow
laughter and tears all

at the same level where
dysthymia and I live on a
line that runs just below

and parallel to normal
whatever that is

if you are like me don’t
forget this secret

I can look up and I
know God who lives
above the lines looking

back at me and in God’s
eyes I am loved and
special no matter what

look up

Time Will Tell

same breeze different day
same heat different summer
same vision different decade

time cannot alter God’s plans
or promises
time only makes God’s promises
come true

time is

another reminder of your love
for those who believe in you
another reminder of your love
for your church
another reminder of your love
for your people Israel

what is true and what is false
will be revealed by all the
promises of God in time

time will tell

Yesterday’s Poem

I looked just above
the tallest tree to see
if the clouds were moving

they are floating ever so
slowly to the west while
my thoughts drift along

with them looking forward
to the time when the Lord
returns

because we could meet the
Lord in clouds such as
these on a day like today

when yesterday’s poem
will have been the last one
I ever wrote

By and By

the sun casts the faintest
of shadows across the lawn
in the afternoon lull
between rainstorms

my mind does not rest in
these peaceful moments
but continues to ask
questions in the hope of

answers to prayers so long
repeated so long lamented
so long hoped for all in
God’s time

For God’s time is greater
than my own but how sweet
it would be

Satan’s emissary can be as
small as a fly spreading
the littlest lie a fiery
dart aimed at the heart

but just then as I held
on to what I know I heard
the church bells strike
three to remind me that

I belong to thee even if
I die before the fly and
the answers will come
in the sweet by and by
